Treatments during Pregnancy
A woman's body changes during pregnancy. These changes include the softening of ligaments, weight increase and postural changes. This can lead to additional pressure through the body causing general aches and pains including joint aches and back pain. When there is stiffness and/or restricted mobility in the pelvis, spine, rib cage, shoulders and neck it can make it difficult for the body to compensate. Osteopaths believe that the healthy balance and function of the musculoskeletal framework of the body is essential to the health of the whole body. Osteopaths utilise a range of techniques such as physical manipulation, stretching and massage plus other gentle techniques such as cranial. Osteopathy works using the principle that there may be a number of contributing factors to the symptoms and will therefore evaluate not only the area which is producing symptoms but also the associated areas that maybe contributing to the issue for example previous injury, environmental factors and family health history.
